Abstract

Communication is not just a vehicle for transmitting science, but permeating it. The research activity of scientists and researchers take on value when results are shared in a peer community and with the rest of society. Starting with the assumption that media played a decisive role in publicizing scientific activity, the thesis that we want to support in this work is that the advent and development of digital and network technologies have contributed to the emergence of new modes of production, distribution and sharing of science, while at the same time fueling the pressure and the tendency to sensationalism. Social media, in particular, represent a meeting place where the specialist and the popular component blend, making it difficult for users to search for information to locate the correct source.
