From historical archives to genomic maps. The case of Riposto

Abstract

In the more and more interconnected reality we are living in, Historical Archives, Genome and Big Data strive for new perspectives of historical knowledge. Thanks to a combination of powerful algorithms, these two disciplines and Big Data technology were capable of showing the interwoven threads of historical knowledge hidden within the documents of the archives of the city of Riposto, in which the genealogical research on the “Sorbello” family name was successful in reconstructing and revealing the historical origin of that community.
